Police: Car drives into embankment after fight at Boardman apartment

BOARDMAN - A fight at a Boardman apartment led to a car driving into a ditch early Tuesday morning.
According to a police report, police were called to the Serena Woods apartments on Shields Road for a fight inside one of the buildings with shots allegedly fired.
When police got to the scene, officers say they heard a woman screaming for help. The woman told police she picked up a male suspect, identified as Dejuan Thomas.
Police say the two got into a fight in the car, with Thomas allegedly punching her in the face, head, neck and back. The woman further accused Thomas of kicking her during the fight.
From there, the woman told police she ran into the building yelling for help. Police say Thomas went into the building and grabbed the victim by her hair and tried to drag her back outside. Police say the victim was able to break free and exit the building.
Back outside, police say Thomas entered the running vehicle the victim had been driving, and the victim's brother entered from the passenger side after the vehicle started moving.
Police say Thomas made a sharp turn, causing the victim's brother to be thrown from the vehicle, and then drove the vehicle into an embankment.
Police say mutliple people claimed to have heard gunshots during the fight. However, police did not find any evidence of gunfire at the scene.
The victim told police she did not want to press charges against Thomas at the moment, but would later. However, police say Thomas had an active warrant out for his arrest for charges of domestic violence, disrupting public service and strangulation.
Court records show those charges stem from an incident that occurred on Saturday, December 20. Thomas is scheduled for arraignment on December 30.
