A Boardman animal charity is hosting a matching gift campaign for donors, matching all donations made through the end of 2025, up to $45,000.

Animal Charity of Ohio, currently caring for 191 animals, credits its ability to match donations to supporters Karen McBurney, The Flynn Family Foundation and Corinna Kopf, according to a news release.

"Community support allows us to respond quickly when animals are in danger and ensures they receive the care they deserve," Evelyn Shealy from Animal Charity of Ohio stated. "This match gives donors a powerful opportunity to help us continue this critical work."

Five cats were recently seized by the charity's Humane Department, the news release states, which removed the cats and is now helping them with medical treatment, proper nutrition and daily care.

Due to the nature of the five cats being in a home where the owner became overwhelmed with their own living conditions, resulting in an unsafe and unhealthy situation for the animals, the organization states that they are understanding of those who struggle to take care of their pets.

In the release, the charity stated that, "while neglect is never acceptable and will always be addressed, the organization encourages individuals struggling to care for an animal to seek help before conditions escalate."

The release also states that resources and support are available and that early intervention can save animals' lives.

While the organization is hosting the matching gift campaign for the remainder of the year, they encourage the public to consider adoption as well.
