State Fire Marshal investigating cause at Quaker City Castings blaze

The Ohio State Fire Marshal was in Salem investigating the cause of the late Tuesday night fire at the 93-year-old Quaker City Castings plant on E. Euclid Street in Salem.
Salem Fire Captain Shawn Mesler told 21 News the building had "substantial damage" and was unsure when operations would be able to resume at that location.
The fire broke out around 9:30 pm Tuesday and firefighters were on scene until approximately 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The fire remains under investigation, but Mesler said the origin site was believed to have been determined.
The State Fire Marshal flew a heat-seeking drone at the location on Wednesday, and no hot spots were detected.
Quaker City Castings manufactures pump and valve castings for the military, aerospace, and other industries.
21 News has reached out to Quaker City Castings officials to learn how the fire will affect production at the 278,000-square-foot facility, but has not yet received a response as of the publication of this article.
Salem Fire Chief Scott Mason told our crews at the scene last night, "We didn't have enough water at first to do both [outside and inside], so we relied on our ladder truck and a couple small handlines in the beginning until we had enough water set up and we had an adequate water supply."
No plant workers or firefighters were injured in battling the blaze.
Fire departments from Salem, Perry Township, Damascus, Greenford and Winona all respond to battle the blaze, and no plant workers or firefighters were injured.
