YOUNGSTOWN - As the year comes to a close, local nonprofit Thrive Mahoning Valley is taking a look back at the impact it's made in 2025.

The organization released its annual report, highlighting everything from access to food and transportation programs to helping newcomers feel at home.

"This was a year of tremendous growth for us," Thrive Mahoning Valley's Vice President of Operations, Vicki Vicars said, "We met our 'Pedal Forward' bike goal of 100 bikes. We actually had 102, I think, by the end of the year. We started a new project, our Thrive Thru, where we offered a hot meal out of our back door."

Vicars said ThriveMV served over 800 meals and met over 400 people, which also helped them understand the greatest needs.

"We get quite a few phone calls for students looking for housing and newcomers trying to find a place to settle," she said, "Affordable housing is a huge need, and food access is as well, and employment... people looking for good-paying jobs."

However, meeting those needs hasn't come without challenges.

Earlier this year, she said Thrive lost half its staff after funding for several AmeriCorps positions was cut.

"When the government stopped funding those programs, we lost four of our staff members at the end of June and weren't able to replace them," she added.

Despite that, she said the organization adapted, taking on extra responsibilities to keep services going.

Looking ahead, Thrive Mahoning Valley is preparing for the new year with new projects, including a farmers market to increase access to fresh food while supporting local growers.

The farmers market is launching in February at the Mahoning County Library's WIC branch.

The organization also helps provide resources to immigrants in the Mahoning Valley, which can also be found on their website.
