Residents in Trumbull County left with questions about Fiber Optic internet
In July 2024, Lumos, a North Carolina-based internet provider was going to break ground in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties.
Trumbull County Commissioners Denny Malloy and Rick Hernandez tell 21 News say things are moving forward and hadn't heard from Lumos in regards to where installation of the fiber, or timetable for completion.
Nick Coggins of the Trumbull County Planning Commission says Lumos is one of four companies installing infrastructure throughout the county, which will connect residents there to high-speed internet.
Some residents living in Cortland say they're feeling disconnected, expressing their frustration with having their yards dug up, and are still torn up.
"There's really been no communication but the whole process started in January, in winter of 2024," said Fallon Waldo, a Cortland resident. "Everybody's yard is torn up like we put our hard-earned time and money into it and our yards are destroyed," she added.
Meanwhile Coggins says work is moving along slower than anticipated, telling 21 News trenches where fiber cable is being laid, are being hand dug due to water lines being struck. Coggins adds this layer of protection impacts the speed of work being done.
21 News reached out to Lumos, Brightspeed, Omnifiber and Ohio Transparent Telecom for an updated timetables, but as of this writing have not gotten them.
