Remaining cold and turning quiet Friday and into the weekend
After 2025 went out with a bang and caused travel to remain slick overnight, the first day of the new year was much calmer but cold.
A weak clipper system is poised to move across the area by midnight. New snow accumulation of around an inch is possible, and roads may become slick for a time.
Temperatures will fall to the low teens before midnight and hold steady in the teens overnight into early Friday morning.
Temperatures are expected to rise closer to average on Friday, with locations peaking in the mid-to-upper twenties. By this time, persistent westerly winds will finally calm down.
This weekend will remain calm, but also colder with both days featuring high temperatures below the average. Saturday's high temperatures will peak in the mid 20s, and Sunday's in the upper 20s. This weekend also features a good deal of cloud cover each day.
A new temperature pattern will take over early next week, with high temperatures jumping from the 20s to the low 40s Tuesday through Thursday. Next week looks largely quiet with light snow possible Monday and then showers possible Tuesday night into Wednesday.
