Temperatures will climb the stairs for the next seven days
It seems like a world ago when our area checked in with a temperature of 60 on Sunday night.
Although we may not experience a temperature like that for months, the end of our seven-day forecast does include a mild trend. For now, though, snow and cold have ruled the Valley.
The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport recorded a snow depth of 7 inches on Thursday morning, the first time since February 2022. An additional 0.4 inches of snow from a clipper system last night has made roads slick for the Friday morning commute.
The weather story today will not be as chaotic. A light band of lake-effect snow will move south, impacting far northern Trumbull and Mercer Counties before dry air works in and dissipates the band. Everyone else will be dry, with highs in the mid-20s. We’ll have another night of lows in the low teens.
Cloudy skies will rule the day Saturday, as the general “vibe” of the day will match Friday’s. Highs will approach the mid-20s for all. A light wintry system could pass to our north overnight, meaning those closer to the Erie lakeshore could get a few snowflakes.
Sunday will follow Saturday’s gist. Highs will persist in the mid-20s, though winds could gust up a bit in the afternoon. Another chance for snow may work in late overnight.
As the potential for snow fades on Monday morning, a warm front will move through our region, finally bringing temperatures above freezing. Not much else is expected during the day, which will end with a veil of high clouds.
While we expect Tuesday to start sunny, conditions will quickly change as rain approaches in the afternoon. Temperatures will improve above average, while showers will continue through the evening.
A mild second week of January looks likely, though the chance for above-average precipitation also looks possible.
