YSU head football coach Doug Phillips is looking for a new defensive coordinator.

Football Scoop reports John Haneline is leaving for Georgia State.

Haneline led the defense for two years and has been on staff at YSU for four years.

In 2025 the defense improved in a couple of categories with 12 interceptions and 24 sacks, but also gave up nearly 400 yards a game.

Haneline is the second on staff person to leave.  Tom Phillips, who held the title of chief of staff also left to be the head football coach at Newark Catholic.
