POLAND - A Niles man is behind bars after police say a man was shot in the face in Poland Township.

Poland Township Police Detective Sergeant J.R. Jackson tells 21 News the incident happened on December 29 when three suspects were invited to a home on the 2200 block of Bel Aire Lane. Jackson says that visit resulted in a robbery and a victim getting shot in the face.

"These people came to the house on invitation. Something happened after after certain amount of time that they were there, and that's when the robbery happened, and then the shooting," said Jackson.

Jackson says the victim was taken to the hospital where he was last reported to be in stable condition.

"He was able to identify one, one of the suspects he's currently incarcerated at the Mahoning County Jail. We are looking for two other suspects as well as the suspect vehicle," said Jackson.

Jackson says the victim identified 22-year-old Julian Vanfossan as one of the suspects in this case, prompting his arrest.

Court records show Vanfossan is charged with felonious assault. He's scheduled to appear in Struthers Municipal Court on Monday, January 5.

In the meantime, Jackson says police have leads on the other two suspects, but neither of the two have been arrested yet.

Neighbors told a 21 News crew that this is typically a quiet neighborhood, and that it seems to be an isolated incident. They also did said there's been occasional problems at the house in the past, but nothing like this.

One person living on the street told 21 News that someone from the home was going door-to-door, and showed us blood stains found on their porch. Another shared audio caught on their ring camera.

Jackson is asking anyone with information about the shooting to reach out.
