Youngstown State University football has its first ever Walter Payton Award Winner.

Quarterback Beau Brungard was announced the winner of the most prestigious offensive award in the FCS on Saturday evening. 

Brungard led the FCS in touchdowns with 48 and passed for over two thousand yards, plus one thousand rushing. 

He led YSU to an 8-4 regular season record in 2025 and helped the team return to the playoffs.

Brungard beat out Western Carolina's Taron Dickens and North Dakota's Cole Payton.
