Veterans living in the Hermitage Area will have access to more services thanks to a new facility that opened its doors Wednesday on North Hermitage Road, just five minutes away from the previous location.
"We grew out of our old clinic on Kerrwood; our goal is to expand services," said Julie Distler, associate chief nurse of ambulatory care.
The Michael A. Marzano Department of Veterans Affairs clinic on Kerrwood Drive served around 2,500 veterans in Mercer County. Thanks to the new state-of-the-art facility, that number will climb. It will offer primary care, mental health and telehealth services, X-rays, and physical therapy.
"We're going to be expanding to acupuncture, chiropractors, and battlefield acupuncture," said Distler.
It's a much-needed resource hub for the community, as a nationwide trend sees a larger aging population.
"We're going to be able to bring services here. Prior to this we had to send veterans into the community for a lot of things, and we're hoping to be able to bring those specialty services right here," Distler explained.
It also opens up a network of providers, making sure veterans receive quality care when they do have to go outside of the VA for treatment.
If you're a veteran and looking to get enrolled, you can stop at the clinic. It's at 1505 North Hermitage Road, the site of the former Knotts Interior store.
