Police charge workers accused of stealing from Boardman businesses
In one case, store managers told police they fired a worker after discovering he had consumed food and drinks in the break room without paying.

Boardman police recently handled three separate cases involving employees accused of stealing from their workplaces this week.
Benjamin Kane, 46, of Boardman, surrendered to authorities on Tuesday on a felony theft warrant issued in October 2023. Police accused Kane, a former manager at a business on Boardman-Canfield Road, of removing a cash drawer while off-duty. Security video reportedly showed him entering a back office with the drawer and leaving the store with a money bag in his pocket. Court records show a not guilty plea was entered for the case on Tuesday. Judge Joseph Houser set his bond at $2,500 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for February 3.
Kristi Summerville, 43, of Youngstown, also turned herself in Tuesday. She faces four counts of misdemeanor theft stemming from incidents at a store on Doral Drive in November. Loss prevention agents told officers Summerville worked fulfilling online orders and placed unpurchased items—including pajama pants, popcorn, and a LEGO decoration—into bags for herself. The stolen items totaled approximately $ 81. Summerville was released on a summons and is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday afternoon before Judge Houser.
Officers also took a report filed on New Year's Eve regarding a separate employee at a Doral Drive business. Managers told police they fired a worker after discovering he had consumed food and drinks in the break room without paying. The employee allegedly consumed about $44 worth of items over two months. The business told police it would conduct an internal investigation.
