A Mahoning County judge ruled Wednesday that a local man will proceed to trial next week for charges related to a 2024 homicide.

Judge Maureen Sweeney ordered Jules Freeman to remain in the county jail pending the outcome of the case. The judge granted a defense motion allowing him to wear civilian clothing during the jury trial rather than a jail uniform.

Selection of a jury is scheduled to begin Monday at 8:30 a.m.. Freeman faces charges including murder and involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of Allen May on the city’s South Side. Court records indicate the case has faced multiple delays since Freeman was indicted in early 2024.
