OSU Mahoning Extension announces more AgriSeries dates, events

The Ohio State University (OSU) Extension Mahoning County announced in a news release on Thursday, January 8, more dates for the upcoming AgriSeries throughout 2026.

On January 13, the Columbiana Career and Technical Center, located at 9364 OH-45 in Lisbon, will host a winter feeding program from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The program aims to educate those involved in the class on how to feed a herd of cattle and calves nutritious food through the winter months. The speaker for this class is listed to be Dr. Mark Hilton of the University of Illinois.

A dinner will be provided. Those interested in attending may call or text 330-341-2788 by Friday, January 9, 2026, if possible.

The first session of the 2026 AgriSeries is planned for January 22, 2026, covering funding resources available to farmers, including Farm Storage Facility Loans.

The featured speaker for this session will be County Executive Director Jill Ritchie of the USDA Farm Service Agency.

The session will be held at the OSU Extension Mahoning County at 490 South Broad Street in Canfield from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The cost to attend is $5 and can be paid via credit card.

Next, on January 27, there will be a livestock mortality composting certification course held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Columbiana County Extension, located at 7989 Dickey Drive in Lisbon.

There is a registration fee of $20 per participant, with a meal provided.

It is noted in the release that, in Ohio, completion of a mortality composting certification class must be completed before implementing the practice on a farm.

There will be an annual producer meeting held on February 10 at the Salem Saxon Club. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m.

The featured speaker for the meeting will be Dr. Lowell Midla.

On February 17, there will be a "Rain Barrels to Rain Gardens" class at 4:30 p.m. at the Lisbon Lepper Library. This event is listed to be free and open to the public while being partnered with the Columbiana Soil and Water District (SWCD).

OSU Extension Mahoning County will present "Agritourism Ready: Emergency Preparedness and Risk Mitigation for Agritourism Operations" on February 19.

The class aims to provide participants with the necessary tools to prepare for emergency situations, protect visitors and team members and take steps to protect an agritourism operation.

There is a registration fee of $20, but this fee will cover lunch, materials and a take-home binder preparedness plan binder.

The featured speaker for this class is listed to be OSU AGNR Educator Rob Leeds of Delaware County.

This workshop will also feature a panel discussion from agritourism operators.

On February 22, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Mahoning County Extension Office at 490 South Broad Street in Canfield, there will be the second session of the 2026 AgriSeries called "Farm Succession Planning."

This class is structured to guide farm families in proactive succession planning.

A $5 registration fee is listed, and those interested in registering can do so by calling 330-456-4889.
