Trust claims $2 million Powerball prize from ticket sold in Akron

A winning Powerball ticket sold in Akron last summer has been claimed by a trust just weeks before the expiration date.
The Blessed Family Trust, represented by trustee Andrew J. Pfeifer, claimed the $2 million prize from the Aug. 27, 2025, drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at the Circle K store located at 3520 S. Arlington Road.
Lottery officials said the ticket matched all five white balls—9, 12, 22, 41, and 61—but missed the red Powerball number of 25. While matching five white balls typically results in a $1 million prize, the ticketholder purchased the Power Play option, which doubled the prize to $2 million. The Power Play multiplier for that drawing was 4X.
Winners have 180 days from the drawing date to claim their prize.
After mandatory state and federal taxes totaling 26.75 percent, the trust received a payment of $728,750.
The odds of winning the Match 5 prize are 1 in 11,688,053. No tickets matched the jackpot numbers for that drawing. Two other tickets sold in Mississippi and Virginia also won $2 million prizes, while tickets in Arizona, New York, and Virginia won $1 million.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and are broadcast on 21 News at 11. The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 10, with an estimated jackpot of $124 million.
