TV shoplifters make getaway from Boardman Walmart in taxi

Police are looking for two men who used a taxi to make their getaway after allegedly stealing a television and trying to use a stolen credit card at the Boardman Walmart.
An unsuspecting taxi driver provided details to Boardman investigators following a theft at the Walmart on Doral Drive on Saturday morning.
The incident began around 6 a.m. when a taxi driver picked up two men at the Grovewood Manor apartments in Youngstown. The driver told police the pair asked to go to the Boardman Walmart to buy a television and a video game console.
Store security footage showed the men entering the electronics department. One man was in his late 50s and wearing a red hoodie. The other man was in his 20s and wore a mask and a black jacket.
The younger man attempted to buy an Xbox at two different registers, but the bank card he used was declined both times. While he tried to make the purchase, the older man stood nearby with a 43-inch television in a shopping cart. Security officials said the men then walked out of the store with the television without paying for it.
The men returned to the waiting taxi with only the television. The driver reported that the younger man seemed to oversee the operation. She also noted that the older man appeared to have a mental disability and was told to stop talking by his companion during the ride.
After the men were dropped off at separate locations in Youngstown, the driver found a Huntington Bank debit card left in the backseat. The older man had used the same card to pay the taxi fare.
On Sunday, a victim went to the Boardman Police Department to report his debit card had been stolen from his car. He told officers the card was used for an attempted $620 purchase at Walmart on Doral Drive.
The taxi driver turned the stolen card over to the police, and investigators are using the driver's description and store video to identify the suspects. No arrests have been made.
