Travel troubles with the arrival of frigid air, snow showers

A potent cold front will approach the area on Wednesday, and a big change is on the way for the second half of the week. Before the arrival of the arctic air, it will remain fairly mild overnight into the midday hours Wednesday with readings not far from the 40-degree mark. However, temperatures will tumble rather quickly toward the end of the afternoon, resulting in a change from rain showers to snow showers. The snow will continue to come and go Wednesday evening into the overnight and untreated surfaces will become slick. Wind chill value will settle into the single digits, and we expect them to remain there all day Thursday.
Snow showers will be around at times through at last the midday hours Thursday. The highest total accumulations will be around and north of the Turnpike, but there can be slick conditions everywhere regardless of the snow total. The area will be in between systems Thursday night and early Friday and it will be cold and quieter.
Snow showers are set to return Friday, and surfaces can become slick again, especially in the afternoon. More relatively weak winter weather systems will track our way Saturday through Monday, resulting in occasional snow showers once again. It will be bitterly cold Sunday through Tuesday.
