YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown Fire responded to the scene of a home this afternoon on East Avondale Avenue, near William H. Taft Elementary.

Smoke could be seen coming from the inside of the home. Crews on the scene told 21 News that the fire began in the basement of the home and firefighters were able to contain the flames to the basement level. 

The upper levels of the home sustained only smoke and heat damage. A neighbor called the fire department after seeing smoke coming from the house — the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire. Nobody was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Youngstown Fire Department said investigators would be arriving to the scene Wednesday.
