BOARDMAN - After 10 years of vacancy, the former K-Mart location on Route 224 in Boardman could occupy a new business soon.

Boardman Township Trustee Steve Yacovone tells 21 News Dick's House of Sport, a larger, more expanded version of Dick's Sporting Goods, could be coming to the former K-Mart location.

In addition to the merchandise offered at traditional Dick's Sporting Goods stores, the House of Sport locations offer more interactive activities for customers, including rock walls, sports simulators, an ice rink and a practice field.

House of Sport locations also have a golf pro shop and the "House of Cleats."

Yacovone says he's happy to see another business come into an area that's been vacant for years since it would create new jobs and generate more tax revenue for the township.

If passed, the new business is expected to create 120 new jobs for the township, not including the construction jobs to develop the store. This matter must go through two readings to pass.

Dick's Sporting Goods already has a location on Route 224 in Boardman across from The Shops at Boardman Park. It is unclear what will happen to that location if the House of Sport location is approved.
