Masury man accused of murdering sister to go to trial, plea deal rejected

BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP - The case of a Masury man who is accused of murdering his sister is set to go to trial after the suspect rejected a plea deal.
A jury trial set for February 17 for 62-year-old John Zanolli will go ahead as scheduled after Zanolli rejected a plea deal during a pretrial hearing Wednesday morning.
Zanolli is charged with aggravated murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with the shooting death of his sister, 65-year-old Janice Zanolli in February of 2025 in her 3rd Street home.
Janice's body was not found until March 1, several days after her death. Police say her brother, John, had shot her in the head and spent the following days contemplating suicide.
Police say Zanolli was threatening suicide when officers showed up at the house, but he was able to be apprehended within 30 minutes.
