Much colder with slippery roads & snow showers into Thursday

While temperatures held steady near the 40-degree mark for much of Wednesday, a much colder air mass will settle into the region overnight and into Thursday. The frigid temperatures will be accompanied by snow showers, which will result in slippery conditions on untreated surfaces. Snow showers will continue to come and go through Thursday afternoon. The highest accumulations will most likely be around and north of I-80, but many locations south of there will pick up at least a couple of inches.
The Valley will be between systems Thursday night, but a weak area of low pressure will scoot through the Great Lakes on Friday, resulting in a few snow showers. Fresh accumulations should be an inch or less. Flurries and light snow will remain a possibility Friday night into parts of Saturday. A fresh batch of pure arctic air is set to surge into the region Saturday night.
A very cold, but relatively quiet day is in store for Sunday. Bone-chilling temperatures will stick around into the first half of next week, but a major snowfall is unlikely to accompany the harsh cold.
