Warren council approves fund for cannabis sale revenue

Warren - Warren Council members have approved a new law to create a special account for money the city receives from recreational cannabis sales.
The account, labeled as a "Host Community Cannabis Fund", will be established in the city's budget and will hold all tax money sent to Warren from the state's adult-use cannabis program.
One councilman says the fund will help pay for numerous costs within the city.
"It pays salaries, it pays for street budgets, it pays for car repairs, it's just in the general fund, "said Warren City Third Ward Councilman Greg Greathouse.
Currently, two dispensaries operate in Warren. Both locations serve medical patients and adult-use customers. Under city rules, the businesses must follow guidelines, such as operating only between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and maintaining a no-loitering policy on their property.
The two dispensaries average just over $20 thousand each month, with the funds going towards the city's general fund.
Greathouse says that while the money is designated to the general fund at this moment, that could change in the future.
