Niles man convicted of assault with baseball bat

A jury found a Niles man guilty of attacking a neighbor with a baseball bat during a holiday dispute last year.
Kyle McMahan, 25, was convicted of second-degree felonious assault. The verdict followed a two-day trial before Judge Ronald Rice.
The incident occurred on July 4, 2025. Prosecutors said McMahan assaulted a neighbor who was setting off fireworks near his home on St. John Avenue. During the trial, the neighbor testified that he was hit in the head with a bat.
The victim told the court he still suffers from health problems caused by a concussion and a head injury.
McMahan faces a prison sentence of between two and 12 years. He will remain in custody while probation officers conduct a background investigation. A sentencing date will be scheduled once that report is finished.
