North Bloomfield man accused of kicking police at Warren Hospital

A North Bloomfield man faces several charges after he allegedly fought with a police officer and a security guard at St. Joseph Hospital on Monday evening.
Warren police arrested Joseph Campbell, 34, after receiving reports of a person walking in the middle of East Market Street. According to a police report, an officer found Campbell at the corner of East Market Street and Pine Avenue around 4:30 p.m.
The officer discovered Campbell had two warrants for his arrest and took him into custody. While checking Campbell's backpack, the officer reported finding a glass pipe and a white paper containing a substance that looked like crystal meth.
Police first took Campbell to the Trumbull County Jail, but jail staff said he needed a medical exam before they could accept him. The officer then drove Campbell to St. Joseph Hospital.
The situation became physical at the hospital emergency room. Police said Campbell dropped to the floor and began acting strangely. He then allegedly stood up, took a fighting stance, and charged the officer.
During the struggle, Campbell allegedly kicked the Warren officer in the groin. Later, while being treated on a hospital bed, Campbell allegedly kicked a hospital security officer in the chest. Both the police officer and the security guard reported minor injuries.
Court records show Campbell appeared in Warren Municipal Court, where he pleaded not guilty to several charges, including assault and possession of drug tools. A judge set his bond at $35,000 for the Warren cases. He is also facing a separate charge in Niles for allegedly fleeing from police earlier in the month.
Campbell remains in jail while his cases move forward in court.
