WARREN - The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a phone scam targeting county residents.

The scam involves scammers calling would-be victims, impersonating sheriff's deputies or jury commission staff, claiming that the victim failed to appear for jury duty and needs to pay a fine to avoid jail time.

The Trumbull County Sheriff's Office is reminding residents that the Sheriff's Office and courts would never contact a potential juror by phone, unless authorized to do so by the juror, and would never request financial information over the phone.

If you do receive a call like this, you're asked to hang up. If the scammer leaves a voicemail, you're asked not to call the number back.
