PennDOT expands speed restrictions in Northwest region

OIL CITY, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has expanded its temporary speed restrictions in the Shenango Valley, imposing restrictions on even more roadways on Monday morning.
Speeds have been reduced to 45 miles per hour on I-80 from the Ohio state line all the way to Exit 45, which leads to Route 478 in Clarion County due to winter road conditions.
As of 11:40 a.m., even more roads have been added, including I-90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line, I-79 from the I-90 interchange to the end point in Erie County and I-86 from the I-90 interchange to the New York state line.
Commercial vehicles not affected by these restrictions must move to the right lane.
While PennDOT is treating the roadways, its primary goal is to keep roads passable rather than making sure they are completely free of ice and snow.
PennDOT will continue to treat the roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
