POLAND - Poland Local Schools Superintendent Craig Hockenberry has shared a positive update following his announcement of an esophageal cancer diagnosis.

According to a Facebook post from Hockenberry, a 12-hour surgery to remove his cancer was successful, with surgeons removing part of his stomach and esophagus.

Now, Hockenberry will continue chemotherapy.

In November 2025, Hockenberry suddenly announced his retirement from the position of Poland Local Schools Superintendent. The district later revealed this was due to an esophageal cancer diagnosis.
