A community center and a fire department in Trumbull County are serving as warming centers as temperatures drop to around zero this week.

The Newton Falls senior center, located inside the city administration building at 612 W. Broad St., is currently open as a temporary shelter. The center is available for anyone who needs to get out of the cold. People who need assistance can call 330-675-2730 or 330-872-7306.

The Braceville Fire Department is also acting as a warming site at 800 Braceville Robinson Road SW. Fire officials ask that anyone planning to visit the station first call the Trumbull County dispatch non-emergency number at 330-675-2730. This allows dispatchers to alert the crew to meet visitors at the building.

Weather reports show that wind chill values reached as low as minus 15 degrees on Tuesday morning. Forecasters expect temperatures to stay in the teens throughout the afternoon.

A second cold front is expected to arrive late in the week. This system could bring even lower temperatures to Ohio and Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday.

Safety officials recommend that residents stay indoors as much as possible. Those who have to go outside should wear multiple layers of clothing and cover exposed skin to avoid injury from the cold.
