Youngstown nonprofit to host indoor pop-up skatepark

A local nonprofit group plans to turn part of Penguin City Brewing Company into a temporary skatepark for one day next month.
The Youngstown Skatepark Association will hold the free event on Feb. 21 at Penguin City at 460 E. Federal St.
The indoor space will be open to people using skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters, and rollerblades. Organizers said the event is meant to show the community why Youngstown needs a permanent and free public skate park.
The day is divided into two parts. A session for children ages 14 and younger will run from noon to 4 p.m. An all-ages session will follow from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is no cost for riders or people who want to watch.
Safety rules will be in place for all participants. Anyone who wants to ride must sign a legal waiver. Parents or guardians must sign for children under 18.
Helmets are required for all riders under 18. The association also recommends that adults wear helmets while riding.
The organization continues to work with city leaders to find a location for a permanent park.
