2001: An agreement under which the city of Girard would have taken ownership of the 27-acre Ohio Leather Works property on U.S. Route 422 falls apart over the proposed timetable for redevelopment.
A new lighting system is being installed in Stambaugh Auditorium with a $600,000 grant from the Ohio Arts and Sports Facilities Commission.
With hours left as president, Bill Clinton reached a deal with the special counsel's office that allowed him to avoid a post-presidency indictment for making misleading statements about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky. As a condition of the agreement, prosecutor Robert Ray insisted that Clinton admit he had given false testimony under oath while he was still president.
1986: Dr. Richard A. Memo, a urologist and the new president of the Mahoning County Medical Society, says rising insurance rates and other high costs of starting a medical practice may spell the end of solo practitioners as more young doctors join group practices.

U.S. Sen. John Tower of Texas wears a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey with Terry Bradshaw's number on it during an appearance before reporters with Sen. Hugh Scott, R-Pa. The appearance settled a Super Bowl bet between the senators.
1951: Retail milk prices of major Youngstown distributors go up a penny, to l19 cents a quart, 20 cents for home delivery.
Trumbull County Prosecutor John H. Anderson requests that telephone and race wire services to Warren's bookie joint be terminated. Anderson says the operation is run by the Farah gang.
