Another arctic plunge later this week; weekend snowstorm?

The harsh cold that resided over the Valley Monday night into Tuesday will lift out of the region for a brief time Wednesday and Wednesday night. A fairly weak weather system can trigger some snow showers around midday Wednesday, but we do not expect much accumulation. The higher chance for up to an inch or possibly two inches will come Wednesday evening, and areas most favored for those accumulations will be in western Pennsylvania.
Thursday will be a little colder, but another blast of arctic air is set to arrive by Friday morning. Temperatures will fall back into the single digits as Friday wears on, and wind chills should end up well below zero. The bone-chilling weather will stick around into the upcoming weekend.
Speaking of the weekend, a major winter storm is expected to impact millions from the mid-South to the mid-Atlantic region Saturday into Sunday. While eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania will be on the northern fringes of the system, at least some accumulating snow is looking possible....especially during the day Sunday. We'll continue to fine-tune the forecast as the weekend approaches and forecast confidence increases.
