Mahoning Co. Commissioners to discuss potential purchase, demolition of East Federal Street building

The Mahoning County Commissioners are set to discuss a resolution regarding a property on East Federal Street in Youngstown.
One item on the agenda for commissioners includes a resolution to enter into a "memorandum of understanding" for the potential purchase and demolition of the property located at 101 East Federal Street.
The 101 East Federal Street building used to house the Eastern Gateway Community College, which dissolved in October of 2024. Additionally, the building houses a parking deck on the upper floors.
The memorandum of understanding would allow the commissioners to construct a new government center on the 101 East Federal Street site following an acquisition and demolition.
Additionally, the resolution indicates that the Commissioners would be credited with the $2.5 million used to purchase the InfoCision building on Patriot Boulevard in Austintown Township.
Mahoning County Commissioners originally purchased the former InfoCision building in 2024 with the intention of using the space as county offices. However, Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti told 21 News that the building was "never an option" for the Mahoning County Board of Elections.
Commissioners are set to discuss the matter during their regular board meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
