Niles mother to be sentenced for child endangering

A Niles woman is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for sentencing after her toddler swallowed drugs last year.
Abbigail McGhee, 32, is set to go before Judge Cynthia Westcott Rice in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. McGhee pleaded guilty in November to one count of endangering children. The charge is a third-degree felony.
The case started in May 2025 when McGhee’s 2-year-old child ingested methadone. According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office, the child was treated at a hospital and tested positive for fentanyl and a medication used to reverse overdoses.
The child recovered from the incident.
McGhee has been waiting for her sentence while officials completed a background investigation. In Ohio, a conviction for a third-degree felony can lead to a prison sentence of up to three years.
Court records show the child's grandmother wrote a letter to the court this month to be considered by the judge. McGhee remains free on a $50,000 bond until the hearing.
