21 News is tracking locations across the Mahoning and Shenango valleys that will serve as warming centers during the upcoming weekend of extreme cold.

Forecasters expect heavy snowfall and temperatures below zero starting Friday. In response, local officials are opening public spaces to help residents stay safe and warm.

In Mercer County, Shenango Township leaders announced the community room at the municipal building will open at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23. The center is scheduled to remain open until 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, though officials said that timeline may change based on weather conditions.

Visitors at the Shenango Township location will have access to a kitchen, restrooms, and electricity for charging electronic devices. The facility also offers internet access and televisions.

Township officials ask residents to bring their own food, blankets, and pillows. People may also bring games or puzzles to use while they stay at the center.

Local emergency workers, including the police department, fire department, and emergency management coordinator, will monitor the site to provide assistance.

In Mahoning County, Community Corrections Association (CCA) at 1771 Market Street in Youngstown will serve as a warming station from 7 p.m. through 7 a.m. every day. Registration will take place from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. No one will be admitted after 9 p.m.

The facility is available to single men. Once admitted, guests must remain on site for the night. Anyone who leaves will lose their bed for the night. No weapons or drugs are permitted, and guests exhibiting violent or disruptive behavior may be asked to leave.

WFMJ-TV is continuing to update its list of available locations. Organizations or municipalities planning to open warming centers should email details to news@wfmj.com.
