Youngstown residents deal with severe snow storm
YOUNGSTOWN - Residents of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys dealt with a severe snowstorm on Sunday, Jan. 25.
StoneFruit coffee in downtown Youngstown opened at 9 a.m. to serve coffee to first responders and YSU students downtown.
Owner Mike Cupp says he wanted to make sure that people who lived or worked downtown had a place to get food and get out of the cold.
"We want to make sure we keep everybody warm," he said.
Cupp adds that he came in at 6:45 a.m. to clear snow from his entrance and parking lot.
"Walkways I've done at least three times, the lot I've done twice," he said.
Families went to Mill Creek Park to sled after its hills were covered with snow.
"It's the best place for sledding," said Alivia, who brought a black sled.
"Bring a good sled and a lot of gear to keep you warm," said Garrett, who brought an orange sled.
Other Youngstown residents shoveled snow from their driveways this afternoon.
Dawn Borosko says she spent an hour and a half outside to clear snow from her driveway and her walkway, but still planned to help shovel snow from her neighbor's driveway.
"Stay warm, make sure you're bundling up, gloves on, scarf on," she said.
Borosko adds that she planned to have some hot tea after she finished.
