OIL CITY, Pa. - State transportation officials have removed vehicle restrictions on interstates in Mercer County and other parts of northwest Pennsylvania following a weekend winter storm.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation lifted the Tier 3 and Tier 4 bans that had limited certain types of traffic on major highways. The restrictions were initially put in place on Sunday to manage safety during heavy snow and ice.

While the vehicle bans are no longer in effect, PennDOT kept a 45-mph speed limit for all drivers in the region. The speed reduction applies to Interstates 79, 80, 86, 90 and 376. Commercial drivers are also required to use the right lane only on these routes.
