BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP - Truckers with Nick Strimbu Inc. have voted to continue to be represented by their union.

A union member tells 21 News the truckers with Teamsters Local 261 voted in favor of keeping their union with the final results being 46 to 41.

Workers with Nick Strimbu Inc. previously told 21 News that the company had been encouraging drivers to end their union membership, with screenshots of internal text messages from the company's president and driver recruitment and retention manager both urging employees to vote against keeping their union.

Those messages included claims that the Strimbu family has voluntarily provided wage increases and healthcare benefits beyond its obligations to the union contract over the years.

A letter from the union's business agent George Whippo sent union members a letter of his own, urging them to vote to keep the union.

21 News reached out to Whippo, who declined to comment on the vote to keep the union. 21 News has also reached out to Nick Strimbu Inc. for comment, but we have not heard back yet.
