The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has restored the speed limit on Interstate 80 in Mercer and Venango counties.
Speeds were temporarily reduced to 45 mph on I-80 in Mercer County early Tuesday morning due to winter road conditions, including reports of black ice. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, those speeds have been restored.
The National Weather Service defines black ice as patchy ice on roadways or other transportation surfaces that is not easily visible.
PennDOT reported a traffic accident late Monday on I-80 eastbound, causing a lane restriction less than two miles east of the Sharon-Hermitage interchange
