PennDOT reduces speed limit on several Mercer County roadways

Mercer County, Pa. - PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limit on Interstate 79 and Interstate 80 due to ongoing winter weather conditions.
As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday, some areas of the roadway in Erie County have seen restored speed limits.
However, according to a release, speeds have been reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:
- I-80 from the Ohio state line in Mercer County to Exit 42 in Venango County
- I-79 from Exit 154 in Crawford County to the Mercer-Lawrence county line
- I-79 from Exit 113 in Grove City to the ending point in Erie County
On roadways with speed limit reductions, commercial vehicles must move to the right lane.
The release states the department's "primary goal is to keep roads passable, and they will not be completely free of ice and snow." It adds that PennDOT will continue to treat roadways until they are clear and the precipitation stops.
PennDOT urges drivers to travel safely and always be on the watch for snow plows, and to give them enough room to remove snow from the roads.
There is no timeline as to when speeds will be restored.
