Senator Husted introduces legislation that aims to improve veteran health care

Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) announced in a news release on Tuesday that he has introduced legislation that aims to benefit veterans.
The bill looks to ensure that veterans living in rural areas have permanent, cross-state access to health care providers for required disability claim exams, expanding care that is currently in place.
The Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 allows certain exam providers to temporarily practice across state lines. However, this expires in January 2026.
The proposed Rural Veterans' Improved Access to Benefits Act proposed by Senator Husted would expand who is able to provide the examinations and contract them through January 5, 2031.
The act passed through the House of Representatives on September 15, 2025, and is now under consideration by the Senate.
"Our veterans put their safety and lives on the line to protect our nation and freedoms, and we owe them a great debt. This bipartisan bill, which has already passed the House, will deliver rapid access to the care veterans in rural areas need and have earned. We need to fight for those who fought for us," said Senator Husted.
