21 WFMJ archives / Jan. 24, 1952 | Youngstown area Ohio National Guardsmen jammed the aisles of their troop train as it pulled out of Youngstown’s Erie Terminal en route to Camp Polk, La., 74 years ago at the height of the Korean War. The men, members of the Fighting 37 th Division, marched from the armory through downtown Youngstown to the terminal, where they were seen off by 3,000 family, friends, and supporters.

2001: Jon Heacock, a native of Beloit and graduate of West Branch High School and Muskingum College, is announced as the new coach of the Youngstown State University football team, succeeding Jim Tressel, who is headed to The Ohio State University.
Dean B. McLain, owner of McLain Jewelers and a Korean War veteran, is named Veteran of the Year at the United Veterans Council Banquet at VFW Post 3538 in Struthers.

Thomas Stewart testifies in Trumbull Common Pleas Court that when he searched the home of Danny Lee Hill, the only recently laundered piece of clothing he found in the house was a pair of gray trousers that matched the description of pants worn by Hill on the day 12-year-old Raymond Fife was fatally beaten.
