Habitat for Humanity accepting applications for new homes in Youngstown, Warren

YOUNGSTOWN - Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley is now accepting applications for new homes, including a project ready to start in Warren, followed by houses in Mahoning County.
Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley Homeowner Services Coordinator Beth Valerio is quoted in a press release saying Warren is currently the organization's top priority.
"We're excited to build a new home. We're just on the search for our new homeowner," Valerio said.
Applicants must meet several requirements to qualify for a Habitat home. These qualifications are listed below.
- Applicants must demonstrate a need for shelter and cannot presently own a home.
- Applicants must show willingness to partner with Habitat by completing 250 "sweat equity" hours per adult in the household.
- Applicants must have the ability to attend financial and homeowner education classes.
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Applicants must be willing to purchase a home in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana Counties.
- Applicants cannot be a registered sex offender. All family members must pass a criminal background check.
- Applicants cannot have drug violations within the previous two years.
- Applicants must currently live or work within Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana County.
"Our qualified future homeowners get an affordable mortgage through Habitat. This is not a free home. We are excited to break ground, work in the Warren community and provide someone their dream of homeownership," said Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley Executive Director David Redig.
Applications may be downloaded here or picked up at 1919 E. Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
