Police are investigating separate overnight shooting incidents on Youngstown’s Southside, one of which involved 35 shots and forced a homeowner to duck for cover.

The first incident was reported at 11:13 p.m. on Wednesday on West Dewey Avenue. Officers responding to a gunfire detection alert found four spent 9 mm shell casings in a driveway. The homeowner told police she was asleep and did not hear the shots. Investigators found no damage to nearby houses or vehicles.

Three hours later, police were called to East Lucius Avenue to find a house with multiple bullet holes. The owner told officers she was watching television when gunfire erupted, forcing her to dive to the floor for cover.

The resident reported that after the shooting stopped, someone pulled on her front door and tried to enter. The person left after the resident yelled that she was calling the police.

Outside the home, officers recovered 35 spent shell casings of various calibers, including 9 mm and rifle rounds, as well as a bullet fragment from inside the house. Security footage from a neighboring home showed a black SUV driving past the residence several times before the shooting began.

No injuries were reported in either incident. Detectives are reviewing the video evidence as they continue to investigate.
