Christine Oliver files petition to run for Mahoning Co. Commissioner

Christine Oliver officially filed her petition with the Mahoning County Board of Elections Friday to run for Mahoning County Commissioner on the Republican ticket.
Oliver currently serves in Canfield as City Council President. She said her primary focuses include, law enforcement, property tax reform and protecting senior citizens — all while maintaining government transparency.
"What's important to me is the transparency, and that we protect the tax dollars of our citizens," Oliver told 21 News. "That we protect our seniors and that we have property tax reform."
Oliver said her view on property tax reform includes taking another look at the "homestead exemption" and assisting seniors as much as possible.
"I believe that we can double the homestead exemption and give the occupancy tax to our seniors to help them," Oliver said. "We need to make sure that our seniors don't lose their homes to property taxes and that we are looking out for them."
Looking out for residents' tax dollars and budgeting the county carefully is another prime focus, Oliver said.
"We need to make sure we are not taking the money from our residents and increasing their taxes, be it sales tax, be it property tax. We have to look out for our residents and watch our budget," Oliver said.
Supporting local law enforcement is also important to her. Oliver described herself as a "very big advocate of law enforcement." She is also the founder of Back the Blue Ohio, a nonprofit that raises funds for children of fallen officers.
