Props that are planned to be featured in a proposed science fiction museum in Warren were unveiled during a launch party on Friday.

"For the past two years, the Trumbull County Historical Society has been building out the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Arts," said Meghan Reed, Executive Director of the Trumbull County Historical Society.

Part of the process of building out this collection, according to Reed, has been procuring the props that will be used in exhibitions.

Over the course of two years, 13 truckloads of props have been driven from Los Angeles to the Warren area, thanks to donated items from John Zabrucky, a Warren native and the co-founder of Hollywood prop house "Modern Props, Inc."

Zabrucky donated the items after he retired, aiming to give back to his home community.

"John was creating props for things like Men in Black, Star Trek, Blade Runner and Ghostbusters, and some of these early sci-fi films that really shifted how Hollywood saw the future and how they saw sci-fi production," said Reed.

In 2024, the Trumbull County Historical Society purchased the property at 410 Main Avenue in Warren, aiming to use it as the potential site of the museum.

Reed says if all funding opportunities are successful, they plan to break ground next year in 2027, with a grand opening the following year. At least one floor would potentially be open as a sort of preview.

It would be the first science fiction museum in the United States.

One aspect that museum curators hope to dive into is the science behind "science fiction" and what could be possible in the next 50 years.
