Ellwood City nonprofit holds fundraiser aimed at benefitting city's main plaza

Once a year, Ellwood City Revitalization, a nonprofit based in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, hosts its annual Winter Wine & Brew Fest fundraiser, aiming to raise money to help upkeep portions of the city's main street plaza and fountain.
Now in its ninth year, the event took place at the Sons of Italy, located at 808 Lawrence Avenue.
The fundraiser featured food from Mary Joe's Catering, music by Rayner Shine Entertainment, wine and beer tastings, a basket raffle and a sportsman's raffle, courtesy of Duke's Sport Shop Inc.
President Brad Ovial of Ellwood City Revitalization told 21 News that the aim of the fundraiser is to bring the community together for a good cause, and they host many different events that people can participate in.
"We have a wide array of events, from January through December. That's what we do here. We work together, teamwork, to make Ellwood City as good as it can get," said Ovial.
Money gathered during these fundraisers can go toward several different projects, including:
- Repairing the fountain
- Repairing the electronics in the pit
- Any new seating
- Repairs on the bricks
- Work on the comfort station
Ovial also says that if community members weren't able to make it out to this event, the group hosts multiple throughout the year, with a big festival taking place in the spring and summer months.
Since 2016, the group has invested over $55,000 in the area.
