An investigation is underway following an "incident" at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center (NEOCC), according to a representative with CoreCivic, the company that operates the facility.

According to that representative, there was an incident involving people being held for CoreCivic's federal partners.

CoreCivic, according to its website, partners with the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to house detainees while they go through the legal process.

Although the nature of the incident was not shared with 21 News, one person was reportedly treated by medical staff on-site before being taken to, treated by and released from a local hospital.

According to a report from the Youngstown Police Department, officers responded to the NEOCC facility on Friday, January 30, 2026, for reports of a stabbing.

When on scene, an administrator at the prison told police that someone in the facility had allegedly stabbed an inmate in the hand and the right side of the head during an argument.

That inmate was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.

At this time, it is unknown if these incidents are connected.

CoreCivic told 21 News that no injuries to staff were reported and the incident remains under investigation.
