A power outage on the south side of Youngstown left more than 1,000 people without electricity on Sunday evening. FirstEnergy reported that 1,173 customers lost power in an area near the Idora and Newport neighborhoods.

Utility crews arrived at the site to investigate what caused the problem. The company has not yet identified the specific reason for the failure. Workers are currently trying to fix the damage, or will request more help if they need it to finish the repairs.

The company expects to have the electricity turned back on by 11:30 p.m. This outage comes during a week of very cold weather in the region. Temperatures on Tuesday morning reached 15 degrees below zero with the wind chill, and more cold weather is expected later in the week.
