GREENE TOWNSHIP, Mercer Co, Pa - A horse died early Friday morning after it was struck by a full-size van in Mercer County, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. along State Route 58, just south of Halfway Road in Greene Township

Investigators said a Ford Econoline Van was traveling north when a horse entered the roadway.

The driver of the truck, a 44-year-old man from Mercer, was unable to avoid the animal. The horse was killed upon impact.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and did not report any injuries. The van sustained disabling damage to its front end and was towed from the scene.
