Brent Hanni filed his petitions Tuesday to run in the Democrat Primary for Ohio's 6th Congressional District.

Hanni is currently the Fiscal Officer for the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Office. He is also the grandson of the late Don L. Hanni Jr., a longtime Mahoning County Democratic Chairman.

Hanni said in a Tuesday statement that he chose to pursue public service after working 20 years in the hospitality industry. He chose to raise his family in Youngstown because he hopes to "rebuild the strength of our communities." He is now looking toward a Congressional run because he wants to shed light on the struggles Youngstown families face.

"No one in Washington D.C. can relate to the problems people face every day in the 6th District. Congress has completely dropped the ball with the American Dream, and as a result, working families are suffering," Hanni said in a statement.

He also added that he hopes to remind politicians on Capitol Hill of their constituents.

"Both parties need to stop the bipartisan games and remember that they work for the people - not just the big-money donors," Hanni said.

Ohio's 6th Congressional District, the Youngstown area, is currently represented in Congress by Republican Michael Rulli. Rulli's term ends in 2027 but he has already announced his bid for reelection.
